An intern’s perspective …

[:en]I’m Bethan Harvey and I’ve been on an undergraduate internship with Cynnal Cymru in partnership with The Open University and Santander. There were lots of options for different work placements as part of the scheme but I connected to Cynnal Cymru’s advert as I am interested in sustainability and I also felt the project and the organisation would add value to my C.V. and the type of work I would like to do in the future.

This month has included lots of new experiences including networking lunches, The Low Carbon Cymru conference at Principality Stadium, Megan’s 25th birthday and the main focus of my internship; working on a campaign to promote and attain applications for The Sustain Wales Awards.

The project involved researching organisations, community groups and individuals not already known to Cynnal Cymru, and encouraging those that are doing good and innovative work around sustainability to consider applying for the Awards.  I’ve learned how to use new tools for social media and e-mail marketing and have been fortunate enough to work bilingually as Cynnal Cymru has a Welsh Language Policy.

I have succeeded in finding 12 new applications and connections from my research and correspondence. In addition to this, I’ve learned a lot more about sustainability and different ways that it can be achieved and this is knowledge that I will take on and apply in the future.

My degree is in Psychology and I’m interested in what motivates people, this project, working on marketing and promotion and sustainability, will add a new dimension to my studies.

I have really enjoyed my time working in a friendly team for a forward-thinking company and I wish Cynnal Cymru all the best in the future and that we’ll stay in touch.[:]
