Welsh rugby star opens the Sustain Wales inaugural Awards

[:en]We are pleased to announce that Wales international rugby union player Hallam Amos who also plays for Newport Gwent Dragons will be joining us at the Sustain Wales Awards on the 19th November 2015 at 6.30pm

In September, Hallam was selected to play in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Culture is an important part of sustainability and in Wales; sport plays a huge part in our culture – rugby in particular.  We are very pleased to have the Wales Millennium Centre as both a Sponsor and a finalist at this year’s Sustain Wales Awards.

The Stadium was awarded ISO20121 the International Standard for Sustainable Events in 2012 in preparation for the Olympics.

This year we launched the first Sustain Wales Awards to celebrate the fantastic work that individuals and organisations are achieving under the umbrella of sustainable Development. We received over 60 applications from across the eight categories, and our expert judging panel selected 26 inspirational applications for the shortlist.

PUBLIC VOTE

The public vote took place between 4 September – 9 October (with nearly 5000 votes) and the eight category winners will be announced at the Sustain Wales Awards at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on 19 November.

Ym Medi, dewiswyd Hallam i chwarae yng Nghwpan Rygbi’r Byd 2015.

Gyda diddordeb mawr mewn cynaliadwyedd a’r manteision a fedr chwaraeon eu dwyn i gymdeithas, teimlwn fod Hallam yn westai addas i agor y seremoni. Mae diwylliant yn rhan bwysig o gynaliadwyedd ac yng Nghymru mae chwaraeon yn rhan bwysig o’n diwylliant –rygbi yn arbennig. Rydym yn falch iawn i gael Stadiwm Mileniwm Cymru fel Noddwr a hefyd fel un a gyrhaeddodd y rhestr derfynol yng Ngwobrau Cynnal Cymru.

Yn 2012 dyfarnwyd ISO20121 i’r Stadiwm, sef y Safon Ryngwladol ar gyfer Digwyddiadau Cynaliadwy wrth iddynt baratoi ar gyfer y Campau Olympaidd. Mae Hallam yn cefnogi’r cyswllt rhwng y Stadiwm, Undeb Rygbi Cymru a Cynnal Cymru – Sustain Wales a dywedodd:
“Rydw i’n falch i gynrychioli agwedd ddiwylliannol cynaliadwyedd yng Ngwobrau Cynnal Cymru’r wythnos nesaf. Mae’n rhaid i genedl gynaliadwy edrych tu hwnt i ystyriaethau amgylcheddol yn unig a chynnwys diwylliant, yr economi a chymdeithas yn ei holl ragolwg. Mae Chwaraeon yn chwarae rhan fawr wrth ddiffinio Cymru ac os ydyw hon yn mynd i fod yn genedl gynaliadwy mae angen i ni sicrhau bod chwaraeon yn eu hanfod yn gweithredu fel rôl-fodel.[:]
